rapper dolla dead

The Los Angeles Times reports that Atlanta-based rapper Dolla (né Anthony Burton II) was shot and killed outside of Los Angeles' Beverly Center shopping mall just after 3 p.m. PDT on Monday.

The shooting reportedly occurred during a group melee, possibly also involving a knife.A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of rapper Dolla -- we've learned he goes by the name Aubery Berry.

Dolla, a rapper whose real name is Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot in the head while he and several other people stood near the center's La Cienega Boulevard entrance, according to police, witnesses and Dolla's publicist, Sue Vannasing. A friend of the rappers who was at the Beverly Center and a Los Angeles Police Department official also confirmed the victim's identity to The Times.

Burton, 21, arrived at LAX from Atlanta earlier in the day and went to the Beverly Center to shop, Vannasing said. After the shooting, Burton was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center a few blocks from the mall, where he died, police said.

Sources say after the shooting, the LAPD put out an alert that the suspect may have fled to the Los Angeles International Airport in an attempt to fly out of the city.

LAX police spotted a man who matched the description, sitting in the lobby area of Terminal 1. Cops approached Berry and almost immediately he said he knew why cops were there and then raised his hands and told them he had a 9 millimeter handgun in his waistband.

Berry (we have not confirmed if this is his legal name or an alias) -- a 20-year-old African American male -- was taken into custody.

Dolla is perhaps best known for the single "Feelin' Myself," which was featured in the 2006 dance film Step Up.
